Paying for a booking

Enter your card at checkout. On an Instant Book car the payment goes through when you book. On a request, your card is authorized when you send it and charged only when the host approves. If the host declines, or the request runs out of time, the authorization is released and nothing is collected.

The card stays with the trip

Your security deposit hold, any extension you ask for, and any post-trip charge go to the same card. Keep it current until the trip is finished and your deposit has been released.

If a payment fails

A failed deposit hold blocks check-in. Update your payment method, then use Retry deposit on the trip page. If a card is declined for an extension, the trip is not extended and your original dates stand until you try again with a working card.

Credits and promo codes

Credits on your account are applied automatically at checkout. A promo code goes in the promo field and is checked before you pay. Both come off the trip total and never off the deposit hold.

What you will not be charged

There is no renter service fee. You pay the host's price, the extras you picked, and tax.
