Extending your trip

Asking for more time

Open the trip and pick a new end date and time. The extra days are priced with the same rules as the original booking, so weekend, holiday, and hand priced days cost what the calendar says.

Who approves it

On an Instant Book car the extension applies straight away and is charged to your card. Otherwise the host decides, and you hear back on the trip page and by email.

What can stop it

  • The dates are already booked by someone else.
  • Your card is declined. Nothing changes and the trip keeps its original end.
  • The booking is hourly. Hourly trips cannot be extended, so book again if you need more time.

If you cannot extend

Bring the car back on time. After a one hour grace period the host is told the car is overdue, and each late day is charged at 1.5 times the daily rate. A day is billed as soon as it starts, so being two hours late costs the same as being twenty.

If you are only running a little late, ask for a time change instead. You can move the return by up to 12 hours with the host's agreement, which is usually cheaper than a late return.
