Delaying pickup or returning early

Small time changes

From the trip page you can move pickup, return, or both by up to 12 hours in either direction. The change is priced first, then sent to the host.

• A later pickup costs nothing.
• An earlier pickup or a later return is charged for the extra time.
• An earlier return is refunded for the time you gave up.

Nothing moves until the host accepts, so keep to the original plan until you see it confirmed. Once the trip has started the pickup time is fixed, and only the return can still be moved.

Coming back early

If you are finished with the car well before the end, ask for an early return with the new end time. Half the value of the days you give up is refunded and the host keeps the other half. The host has to accept before the money moves and the end date changes.

Which one to use

Under 12 hours, use the time change. More than that, use the early return. If you want the car for longer rather than shorter, ask for an extension.

If a request goes unanswered

A change request expires after 24 hours, or at the end of the trip if that comes first. Message the host if the timing is tight.
