Damage and disputes

How damage gets reported, how the before and after photos are compared, and what your rights are when a claim lands on you.

Reporting damage

File a damage report from your trip page on a booked, active, or completed trip. You need a description and at least one photo.

How the damage comparison works

The return photos are compared panel by panel against the car's earlier photos, and only what changed is flagged. A person decides what happens next.

What happens after a claim is filed

You get 72 hours to respond with your side and your own photos, and the claim cannot be decided until you have responded or that window closes.

Responding to a claim you disagree with

You get one written response with photos, so make it complete before you send it. After that you can only add messages on the case.

Deposits and claims

Your deposit is a hold, not a charge, and FanCars works it out: your insurance deductible plus 500 dollars. Hosts never set it.

Chargebacks and why they close the conversation

Asking your bank to reverse a FanCars payment freezes your deposit, pauses your host's payout, and moves the decision to your bank. Talk to us first.
