Reporting damage

Both sides of a trip can file a damage report, and either side can file first.

How to file

Open your trip page and use Report damage. The form asks for:

  • What happened, where it is on the car, and when you noticed it. A full sentence at minimum.
  • At least one photo. More is better, and a wide shot plus a close-up beats two close-ups.
  • An estimated repair cost, which is optional.

You can file on a trip that is booked, under way, or already finished. Filing opens a support case with its own number, and both sides are notified.

When to file it yourself

If something happens to the car while you have it, report it rather than hoping it goes unnoticed. A report you filed with your own photos, on the day, reads very differently from damage found by your host at return.

If you find damage at pickup that is not in the car's earlier photos, report it before you drive off. That is the cleanest way to keep it off your account.

What this form is not for

A crash, a breakdown, a theft, or anything where you need a tow goes through the accident and breakdown form instead, which reaches a specialist by phone and opens a priority case. Use that one first, and file damage details afterwards if they are still needed.
