Getting verified to drive

You have to be verified before you can book. It runs in four steps, and you can stop part way and come back to it.

1. Your details

Your legal first and last name as printed on your license, your date of birth, and the name of your insurance carrier. Submitting this step sets the name on your FanCars account to match your license.

2. Documents

Photograph the front and the back of your driver's license, then upload your insurance card or your declarations page. The declarations page (the PDF your insurer sends) is the faster option, because it shows your coverage and your deductible.

You do not type your license or policy numbers. An automatic check reads them off the documents you upload.

3. Face check

A camera check that takes about five seconds confirms you are the person on the license. You consent to it first, and the Biometric Data Policy explains what is kept and why. If the check will not run on your device, a button appears offering to hand it to our team instead, who verify you from the documents you already uploaded.

4. Your result

Most drivers are approved in about a minute. If something does not line up, for example the date of birth you typed does not match the one printed on your license, it goes to a human reviewer, usually inside a day. While you wait you can add a note for the reviewer or re-upload clearer photos. We email you either way.

Keeping it current

If your license or your policy expires before a trip you have booked, you are warned at booking and blocked at check-in until you re-verify with current documents.
